Lake Cumberland Head Start

Established in 1965, Head Start promotes school readiness for children, ages three to five, in low-income families by offering educational, nutritional, health, social and other services. Head Start programs promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. Programs actively engage parents in their children's learning and help them in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals. Significant emphasis is placed on the involvement of parents in the administration of local Head Start programs. Lake Cumberland Head Start operates a Full-Day Program funded by an annual grant from the Department of Health and Human Services/Administration for Children & Families. (  Lake Cumberland Head Start is a comprehensive child development program that serves income-eligible 3- & 4-year-old children and their families. There are nineteen (19) centers and forty-one (41) classrooms. Lake Cumberland Head Start also operates a Home Base Program in five (5) counties.
