Emergency Food and Shelter
The Emergency Food and Shelter Program supplements and expands the work of local social service agencies in an effort to help people with economic (not disaster-related) emergencies.
EFSP funds may be used to supplement feeding, sheltering (including transitional sheltering), rent/mortgage and utility assistance. Local Boards are convened to determine the best use of funds and to monitor their use in their respective counties. Local Boards rely upon LCCAA to provide the approved emergency food and shelter services.
Eligibility
Households must be at or below 130% of the Federal poverty level, be responsible for home heating costs or pay heating costs as an undesignated portion of rent and have minimal liquid resources. In the Crisis Component, the applicant must be within four days of depletion of heating fuel or have received a disconnect/past due notice from a metered utility.
